Food Safety Raid Uncovers 50 Kg of Spoiled Chicken at Amroha Meat Shop, Probe Underway
Food safety officials raided Babbu Chicken Shop in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, after complaints of rotten meat sales. Nearly 50 kg of spoiled chicken was seized from a freezer, licensing lapses were found, and a customer alleged assault while seeking a refund. An official investigation is underway.
During the inspection, officials searched not only the retail outlet but also its attached storage facility. Inside the freezer, the team recovered approximately 50 kilograms of stale chicken, which was deemed unfit for human consumption. Authorities also found several serious irregularities related to the shop’s storage and licensing arrangements, raising questions about compliance with food safety regulations.
The case took a more troubling turn following allegations from a customer who claimed to have purchased spoiled meat from the shop. According to the complaint, when the buyer attempted to return the rotten chicken, they were allegedly assaulted and threatened by those at the establishment. The allegation added a criminal dimension to what began as a food quality issue.
Following the raid, administrative officials initiated a formal investigation to examine violations of food safety norms and to verify the assault claim. Samples of the seized meat are expected to undergo further testing, while records related to the shop’s license and storage practices are being scrutinized.
The incident has intensified scrutiny of meat vendors in the district and highlighted ongoing challenges in monitoring food hygiene at the local level. Authorities have indicated that strict action will be taken if violations are confirmed, underlining the administration’s responsibility to protect consumers from unsafe food and unlawful practices.
